gmake hanging on Solaris 2.7

I'm running into a problem with two gmake processes hanging (parent/child)
on a Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.7 using gmake 3.79.1.

I'm just starting to debug this now, I'm wondering if anyone has seen this
or has some hints for me.  Here's the stack traces:
