Problem Report

Problem:
gmake clobbers environment variable named 'LIBPATH' on AIX.

Description:
While installing and testing a temporary fix for IBM's Visual Age C++ compiler, we discovered that an environment variable named 'LIBPATH', which was essential to the compiler fix, was apparently being unset during the build process.  I found a couple of (old) references to this behavior via google groups.  Per one of the suggestions, I wrote a simple test program that behaves correctly with respect to an environment variable named 'LIBPATH'.

We obtained the gmake package directly from IBM with the AIX host and software.

Additional information follows the signature.

Thanks!
Rob
