make 3.79.1 under cygwin

Hi,
I am trying to use make under Cygwin. When I type make, the error
message is "Programm too big to fit in memory". I have 256 Mo of Ram,
so, what's wrong ?
This is the 3.79.1 version of make that I copied from RedHat 7.1
