This list is for bugs or help with GNU make.  Your problem is not
related to make, it's related to the package you're trying to build.
You should contact the development list for that package (avview).

However, if this is an open source package then I suggest you look for
and read the files README and/or INSTALL in the source tree, and follow
the directions there.

Often open source packages require you to run a "configure" step before
you can run "make"; the configure step will build the makefile for you.
