There's very little we can say with the information you provide. When
asking for help please always include, at a bare minimum, the version of
GNU make you're using (make --version) and the type and version of
operating system you're running it on. It's also helpful to provide a
small example that shows the problem.
However, in this case I believe this problem has been fixed already. I
recommend you try the latest release candidate for the next version of
GNU make, which you can download here (you'll have to configure and
compile it after you download and unpack it):
