Very likely it's because I have Git for Windows installed on my system.
I'm sure that make is finding the sh.exe that comes with that and
that's why most of these things work in my tests.

Obviously it would be great to have a test suite that works well even
without any sh available and just command.com.  I'm not sure I have the
energy to make that happen, especially given the state of the test
framework--it's just not easy to use in these ways.

Question: why do we remove the .exe at the end of the command name in
main.c?  That seems odd to me, at first glance.  Is that something
common?
