Hello bug-mit-scheme,

Please note that the following issues may need to be resolved in order for a person
to download and install a new installation of mit-scheme by compiling the portable C
sources.

In short, the portable “mit-scheme-c” source archives are not to be found in the any of the
most recent stable mit-scheme packages.

The installation instructions state that the portable C sources must be compiled and installed
prior to installation of an updated binary.

1.  The following URL does not have a link to the the mit-scheme-11.2-c.tar.gz file.

2.  After a general search on the web using a browser the following URL was found:

Upon attempting to download the mit-scheme-11.2-c.tar.gz file, the following
error was returned.

*********
Not Found

The requested URL was not found on this server.

Apache/2.4.29 (Trisquel_GNU/Linux) Server at ftp.gnu.org Port 443
*********

This effectively prevents a new build of mit-scheme.

3.  The following URL is not easily accessible from the URL stated in 1 above.

Only the 11.2 directory is accessible through 11.2 link under the Stable column of the
Current Releases dialog box.

4.  The portable mit-scheme-11.2-c.tar.gz file does not reside in the version 11.2 URL.

5.  The portable mit-scheme-c-*.*.tar.gz file does not reside in any of the following archives:

7.7.1, 9.0, 10.1.1 - 10.1.11, 10.1, 11.1, and 11.2.

The portable mit-scheme-c-*.*.tar.gz does reside in the following archives:
9.0.1, 9.1.1, 9.1, and 9.2.

6.  Please note the difference in naming conventions between accessible version 9.2 and
inaccessible version 11.2 (item 2 above) of the portable mit-scheme archives.

Version Archive Name
9.2: mit-scheme-c-9.2.tar.gz
11.2: mit-scheme-11.2-c.tar.gz.

The `-c` is in a different position in each of the names of the different archives.

Although the developer and maintenance personnel have a much broader view
of the archives and how they are deployed than my narrow view, please accept this
humble observation.

An automated script used to post the C archives may disregard the
"mit-scheme-*.*-c.tar.gz” files if it is expecting "mit-scheme-c-*.*.tar.gz” files
because of the transposition of `c` from the left side of the older version
number to the right side of the newer version number in the name of the archive.

Please forgive this lengthy and somewhat verbose bug report but I hope it helps
to resolve the issues associated with the missing portable C mit-scheme archives.

Take care,

John Chatelain
