Parted doesn't crash with register dumps. It sounds like the
KERNEL crashed. It sounds like you have deeper problems than
what's on the disk... (read: bit rot == broken RAM, CPU, or
something)
Is it possible for you to run Parted from gdb, say? When it
"freezes", you could then hit CTRL-C, and do a backtrace, etc.
to see what's going on. (I suspect this is more bit-rot, though)
