I tried to use parted to split my root ext2 filesystem into two filesystems, but parted cannot detect the filesystem of /dev/hda6 (containing my single ext2fs), so I cannot resize it.

(parted) check 6
Error: Could not detect file system.

parted /dev/hda print
Disk geometry for /dev/hda: 0.000-12419.056 megabytes
Disk label type: msdos
Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags
1 0.031 4581.035 primary FAT boot, lba
2 4581.035 12417.429 extended lba
5 4581.066 6636.225 logical FAT lba
6 6636.256 12135.036 logical
7 12135.067 12417.429 logical linux-swap

itsari:/etc# parted -v
GNU Parted 1.4.20

FYI, cfdisk reports this:

Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB)
hda1 Boot Primary Win95 FAT32 (LBA) 4803.57 hda5 Logical Win95 FAT32 (LBA) 2155.03 hda6 Logical Linux ext2 5765.93 hda7 Logical Linux swap 296.12

Thanks for your help,

Ruben Lysens.
