Hello List,
I have run into a strange error with GNU Parted 1.6.4. I am running it on a
mandrake 8.2 box. I have created partitions on my primairy harddisk /dev/hda
with various tools (DOS fdisk, win2000 partition tool and mandrake
Diskdrake).
fdisk -l /dev/hda gives
Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 4866 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 394 3164773+ b Win95 FAT32
/dev/hda2 395 4866 35921340 f Win95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5 395 893 4008186 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda6 894 2933 16386268+ b Win95 FAT32
/dev/hda7 2934 3510 4634721 83 Linux
/dev/hda8 3511 3541 248976 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda9 3542 4867 10645782 83 Linux
now when I start parted I get the following error:
/usr/local/sbin/parted /dev/hda print
Warning: Unable to align partition properly. This probably means that
another partitioning tool generated an incorrect partition table, because it
didn't have the correct BIOS geometry. It is safe to ignore, but ignoring
may cause (fixable) problems with some boot loaders.
Ignore/Cancel? i
Error: Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition.
Information: Don't forget to update /etc/fstab, if necessary.
My disk /dev/hdb does not give any problems. Also the diskdrake tool included
in mandrake 8.2 does not give any error indication.
Can anyone help me cause I need parted to resize one of the ext2 partitions
without losing all the data.
regards
