Error: Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition

I have what may be a stupid question, but I've been searching for hours trying to resolve this and come up empy... I'm attempting to resize (increase the size of) the extended partition on my /dev/hde disk, but I get the following error from parted 1.6.25.1.

parted /dev/hde print
Error: Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition.

AND

parted /dev/hdg print
Error: Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition.

I'm curious what steps I should take to deal with the issue, parted works fine on my /dev/hda disk.

Thanks, Tony
