Troubles with BibTeX

from the reasons unknown to me I was not able to capture both
stderr and stdout to one file -- 2>&1 did not work as expected).

Using RedHat 6.0 distribution, tetex 0.9 and texinfo 3.12f-4
provided with my distribution) but what confuses me most is that
I was perfectly able to produce desired .PDF with plain pdflatex
cztrst04; bibtext cztrst04; pdflatex cztrst04; \ pdflatex
cztrst04.

And, yes, kpsewhich trust.bib finds the BibTeX database in
current directory.

                        Any thoughts?
