Splitting by node is quite unavoidable for on-line documents.  Not
everybody sits on the US backbone ;-)  With today's advertising-heavy
sites, it's a pain watching the chapter download into your browser via
a dial-up link.

But I think flexibility would be beneficial here, so splitting by
chapters, or even by size on node boundaries, like makeinfo does in
the Info mode, should be supported.

If splitting by anything except nodes breaks external references, we
can say it's a restriction of this feature.  Or we could offer a
separate program that adjusts external references given the target
file which is split in some specific way.
