That's because I specifically made this change for cross-references
only, both because your report was for that case, and because I
thought (and still think) that such long menu items are very rare.

The case with Bison should probably be reported to the Bison
maintainers as an anomaly that might require fixing, IMHO.

Do you really think menus need this behavior as well?  I see some risk
in a similar change for menus, since, unlike cross-references, menu
items normally follow one another on consecutive lines, so making the
same change there could sometimes cause you to silently go to a wrong
menu item.

I don't know what does Debian distribute.  The latest pretest version
of Texinfo is 4.0d (you can get it from alpha.gnu.org).  I'd guess
that Karl Berry will probably make a new pretest soon, since I dumped
gobs of changes on him lately ;-)
