TeX reads the file `filename.eps' (Encapsulated PostScript format).
PDFTeX reads `filename.pdf' (Adobe's Portable Document Format).
makeinfo uses `filename.txt' verbatim for Info output (more or less
as if it was an @example).
makeinfo producing HTML output tries `filename.png'; if that does
not exist, it tries `filename.jpg'.
So Texinfo can handle images, but in an apparently restricted manner,
and with few document formatting options. Perhaps I misunderstand this
section. It seems that we need .eps or .pdf files for printed output,
and .png or .jpeg files for on-line (html) output.
Yes. The reason for this is to support TeX. Using TeX is essential
for producing good-looking books.
However, perhaps texi2dvi could find the @image commands and generate
.eps files from the .png or .jpg files if they don't already exist.
This way it would suffice to provide an image in just one format.
Karl, do you think that is feasible?
