CVS Texinfo: @math and TeX characters

There is a problem with characters such as &, % etc.: they are not
accepted as are by TeX, but the \ is not stripped by makeinfo:

This is CVS makeinfo.  I don't desperately need this, but at least
makeinfo could complain (?).
