Hmm.  texinfo.tex also gives a warning of sorts for an undefined
variable, so I guess it's good for makeinfo to do it too.  Thanks.

I know, they've been there since I began as maintainer.  I clean them up
every once in a while.  whitespace.el was causing me trouble at one
point (years ago) so I turned it off, but I should probably reenable it.

FYI, there's another whitespace.el that is part of Emacs 21.3 with even
