i18n and texinfo

Hi all,

I'm trying to get texinfo to cooperate with i18n with little success.
It seems to be ok for html and info, but not texi2dvi and friends.

Is there any quick hack with, like say, "recode -d ..tex" that will convert
accents to the tex form (eg: \'a), and work?

Any chance of making it work smoothly, out-of-the-box?
