Dear Sirs,

Being faced with the problem of needing quite a number of documents as (
almost ) identical .ltx, .html and .txt printouts, I was very happy to see
that TeXInfo presents me with __the___ solution. The text contains very much
rather complicated mathematics, so I read your texinfo.info thoroughly.

Text was surprizingly easy, it had finished before I realized that I had even
pressed <RET>, but @math gives me a problem. I tested the small example
copied from your texinfo file, node 'Raw Formatter Commands', but regret to
say that `makeinfo` version 4.5 and version 4.0, which I already have for
some time without using it, gave the same results:

Inputfile:
quote
-----

\input texinfo    @c -*-texinfo-*-

@c
@c=======================  B E G I N   O F   F I L E  ========================
@c

@c %**start of header
@setfilename TeXtest.info
@settitle test
@c %**end of header

@node Top

For example, here is a mathematical expression written in plain TeX:

     @tex
     $$ \chi^2 = \sum_{i=1}^N
              \left (y_i - (a + b x_i)
              \over \sigma_i\right)^2 $$
     @end tex

The output of this example will appear only in a printed manual. If

@bye
@c
@c=========================  E N D   O F   F I L E  ==========================
@c

unquote
-------

gives:

quote
-----

address@hidden:~/WS/Texinfo> makeinfo TeXtest.texinfo
TeXtest.texinfo:56: Expected `
@end tex'.
makeinfo: Removing output file `/home/hans/WS/Texinfo/TeXtest.info' due to
errors; use --force to preserve.
address@hidden:~/WS/Texinfo>

unquote
-------

and you will notice that there is no opening apostrophe in the file. Moreover:
leaving @tex - @end tex out solves your problem, but not mine, which is more
important to me. I believe the problem is in the conversion of that section.

I use the professional releases of SuSE 8.2 and 7.1. and besides the runfile
there is only one other named 'makeinfo'*

/usr/share/emacs/21.2/lisp/textmodes/makeinfo.elc

but this one is only 51 lines long so I don't expect my problem is in there.

I also foresee problems with the math conversion into HTML, I don't like TeX
printing -> scanning -> cutting -> insert a REF to .jpg. Is there a reliable
[La]TeX2HTML converter? The latex2html in the SuSE contains only icons.

Please advise what to do since I can't do without the inclusion of such maths.

Thanks

Nieuwenhuizen
