This issue happens with lots of the environments nested within environments
formatted with <pre>. Indeed having <table>, <dd>, and so on in pre isn't 
a good thing (more thinks aren't allowed in <pre> by the standard, like another
<pre>, <small>... but these ones work ok with browsers), and thus the browser
might not render the thing correctly. 

An even better approach would be to first close the <pre>, open the table,
open a <pre> in the table , close the <pre>, close the <table> and reopen the
<pre>. This may be too much, but this is what is done in texi2html.
