Hi Jesper,
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-vandesompel-info-uri-00.txt
Thanks for bringing this up.
Do you know how we can make comments? The authors' email addresses are
listed, but I don't know if there is a more formal mechanism. I would
expect so. (And you'd think they'd make it obvious. Sigh.)
And, would you mind drafting the comment? You're obviously far more
familiar with existing use of info: url's than me :). Your email is
pretty much it, I think, just add more references and extract the info
spec part of the man page.
Technically, it seems current info url's and their proposed info url's
could coexist, since "virtual-filename" most commonly does
not contain a / (although we'd like it to, to support different
languages, but anyway ...). And in the KDE case, where it's
(virtual-filename), they are definitely compatible.
I am not too hopeful about our chance of deflecting a proposal involving
such large institutions, Texinfo seems tiny by comparison, but it does
seem we should at least try.
BTW, perhaps we should write a draft or otherwise attempt to register
texinfo: as a URI scheme. We could unify/formalize the existing
syntaxes. Do you know how we could go about this?
