Ugly Index

I have a problem with the index when used with deffn.  I use deffn a
lot because it has a nice layout, and provides automatic indexing.

But in TeX outputs it seems to be wiling to make "letter sections"
(i.e., the "A", "B", etc.) for the titles of the books themselves.

Have a look at the index in the following file.  And if you are
