Re: Ugly Index

    But in TeX outputs it seems to be wiling to make "letter sections"
    (i.e., the "A", "B", etc.) for the titles of the books themselves.

Hmm. We should probably change texindex to ignore the extra set of
braces in the sort string.

I'll work on that, but it would be better for TeX not to write them in
the first place. Unfortunately, off the top of my head I can't devise a
macro that will strip extra braces from the text, although I'm sure it
is possible.

Right now, \deffn ends up calling \dosubind with \code{{This is the
text}}, and there's nothing to get rid of the extra braces, they just
written to the .cp file.

Stepan is rewriting the defun macros anyway. Stepan, can you try Akim's
file and see how it works with your new code?

Sorry,
karl

P.S. BTW, the implicit @code is messing up the typesetting in your
index, the titles are in typewriter.
@deffn {Book} address@hidden: Principles, Techniques and Tools}} {-- Alfred V.
Aho, Ravi Sethi, and Jeffrey D. Ullman}
produces slanted typewriter, at least :(. Hmm.
