    Hadn't I encountered the visual problems in groff.texinfo, I would
    fully agree to your changes (well, almost: typewriter fonts are too
    wide IMHO).

The typewriter font is narrower than the bold font that was used for the
name.  I suppose it's wider than the slanted font, though.  Anyway.

Stepan had the idea of keeping sl for the defun args by default, and
making only @var switch to ttsl.  Would that solve the problem for
groff?  Do you use @var for other than variable names?

It would make Akim's book titles look ok again, too :).
