FYI, I reverted to texinfo 2003-11-16 (unfortunately cvs -D doesn't
seem to work on the new CVS, but I'm using -D 2003-11-16 on Savannah)
and it works fine. So it appears to be a genuine texinfo problem, and
not with my docbook2* tools.
The good news is of course that for me this bug isn't important now.
