    I can't get @noindent to skip indentation.  

@noindent is for skipping indentation for the current paragraph, not
related to displays.

Try @exampleindent 0.

However, in these cases of long verbatim code, personally I tend to not
bother.  It's not like readability suffers because those lines are long.

    (As you might have guessed, I'm trying to avoid black boxes...)
