Well, I downloaded gnutls-2.1.16, modified configure.ac not to require
libgcrypt, run configure and then
        cd gnutls-2.1.16/doc
        wget ftp://ftp.tug.org/.../texinfo.tex.bz2
        rm texinfo.tex
        bunzip2 texinfo.tex.bz2
        make dvi

I think the bug reported under this subject is closed now.
