Was this with your patched texinfo.tex?  And it worked?  I'm not sure
the version in texinfo 4.7 exhibit the problem, only that the copy
from automake 1.9 and gnulib CVS does.

But I've patched all my manuals now, so the problem for me is indeed
closed.

(I'm assuming you meant gnutls-1.1.16?)
