Problem with macros in displays

Hello,

I'm having a problem with the following macros inside
displays, i.e., between address@hidden' and address@hidden display', when
using `texi2dvi'. I haven't checked the result using
`makeinfo'.

These macros work outside of displays and between
address@hidden' and address@hidden quotation'. I've fiddled with them
quite a bit, but I couldn't get them to work in displays.

I don't want inter-paragraph spacing to be reduced, so I
don't really want to use address@hidden'. I'd also rather not
have to put in `\vskips' explicitly.

I've tried using `\begingroup\narrower' in address@hidden' and
address@hidden' environments, but it didn't work.
I'm admittedly a bit out of practice with respect to using
Texinfo, but I don't really want to go this route, anyway.

These are the versions of Texinfo and texi2dvi that I'm
using:
texi2dvi (GNU Texinfo 4.6) 1.23
I'm using the up-to-date `texinfo.tex'.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The macros:

@macro syntax {arg}
@iftex
@tex
$\\langle$\\rm{\arg\\\/}$\\rangle$%
@end tex
@end iftex
@ifnottex
<\arg\>
@end ifnottex
@end macro

@macro LRA {}
@iftex
@tex
$\\longrightarrow$%
@end tex
@end iftex
@c
@ifhtml
-->
@end ifhtml
@ifinfo
-->
@end ifinfo
@end macro
