No :(.  (There is very little that is rational about makeinfo any more.)

The existing practice in makeinfo is that XML is done more or less
completely differently from everything else.  The stuff is inserted
using xml_insert_entity calls and the like.  (See virtually any
definition in cmds.c.)

Would you care to rework the patch along those lines?  flush* should be
relatively straightforward, I would guess.
