Why not?  We use it as documented:

  The address@hidden' command is seldom used except to mark what is, in
  effect, a typographical element, such as the word `Caution' in the
  preceding example.

Note the `typographical element'.

What do you think of a address@hidden' instruction, something like

  @address@hidden value}}

Here it is.

  @node breve
  @section breve

  @strong{note value}, twice as long as a whole note.  Mainly used in
  pre-1650 music.
