Well, no and yes. It would solve the problem of the messed DIR file, as
we recreate it always from scratch. And if there is a problem it is
house made by us, or GNU i-i.

If you speak about the parsing of info files (but you dind't as far as I
see), then yes, if an info file is messed up, then we are in trouble.
But this should also be handled by GNU i-i.

So I don't see where the problem of parsing the DIR file comes in? Ok,
assume someone has messed up our info file. Call update-info-dir and the
messed up file is gone, forever, recreated.

I think I must have missed something. I go and read Debian install-info
bugs ;-)
