Yes it would.

No one has come forward to implement it (or a number of other requested
info features).  Standalone info is lower priority for me than the
language and makeinfo; I doubt I will ever have time to make substantial
enhancements to it.  (And right now it is a pure tty program, so
anything involving X definitely counts as "substantial".)  I put notices
out in various places a long time ago ... maybe someday someone will
respond.
