If you write simply
...le mot !
in the input, then it seems to me the HTML output might have
...le mot
!
depending on the preceding text. More Perl hackery if it comes up, I
guess.
Also, if you care about any output format besides HTML, there will
likewise be the possibility of line breaks (and no thin spaces).
