Okay, fair enough. An alternative might be to bind "{" and "}" to
search-previous and search-next. This might reinforce the memory of
using "[" and "]" for going to previous and next node.

Not an emergency, but the awkward key bindings are a big part of why
many new users of Info get frustrated with it.

I hoped for this reaction. :) So I could then propose to turn them
all around:

Up Move up one line.
Down Move down one line.
DEL Scroll backward one screenful.
SPC Scroll forward one screenful.
Home Go to the beginning of this node.
End Go to the end of this node.

Now only DEL and SPC seem to be in a somewhat illogical order.

Almost. You removed the wrong "and select the node" string. The
one for "s" should go, not the one for "i". That searching for a
string jumps to the place where that string is located is normal
and expected behaviour. But the "i" command showing not the place
in the index but instead the place that that index item points to,
that is a behaviour that deserves a little explanation.

Further, I think the two search commands should be listed together,
the addition of "You may include a filename as well" seems too much
for a simple help text, and it would be good to mention the Cancel
command. Then this part of the help text would look like:

s Search for a specified string.
i Search for a specified string in the index, and select
the node that is referenced by the first entry found.
C-g Cancel the current operation.

1...9 Pick the first...ninth item in this node's menu.
0 Pick the last item in this node's menu.
m Pick a menu item specified by name.
r Follow a cross reference specified by name.
g Go to a node specified by name.
