I agree speed is not an important criterion with today's computers, as
text formatting doesn't require so much memory and computing resources;
in this kind of software speed should come after e.g. good design,
portability and maintability.

texi2html is a bit slow on my 1.4 GHz CPU when it comes to compile
LilyPond manuals (each manual is between 100 and 340 pages long), but
the time it takes is still ridiculous compared to the time needed to
build whole LilyPond documentation with music samples (more than 2
hours).
