Oh, I see now that you did include your input file in the savannah bug.
Good. But when I run that file, the output of the line in question is:
Follow *note NewFile:: for information on the template processing.
So I remain baffled as to what you are "see"ing.
In any case, @ref is problematic wrt grammar. Your sentence above
doesn't really make sense. I suggest rewriting it, e.g.,
@xref{NewFile}, for information on the template processing.
Bob wrote lots of examples in the manual for the different @...ref
commands.
(Also, the name "NewFile" doesn't seem very descriptive of the topic
"template processing", but I digress ...)
