Does m4 exist as a library which could be easily
integrated into makeinfo?
Not that I know of. I was figuring that it would just be invoked in a
pipe.
Sorry, I thought you had known this, but perhaps you didn't see the
earlier mail on the subject -- our plan is to kill off the C
implementation of makeinfo and use texi2html. Patrice has already done
a lot of work implementing compatibility stuff so that texi2html can
operate just as makeinfo does now.

My hope is not to make another texinfo release until we have
replaced makeinfo with texi2html.
