That seems too magical to me.  But presumably it would be relatively
easy to support \ continuations.

In any case, the crucial thing will be to set up the defaults
sufficiently that for GNU packages referring to other GNU packages that
are installed in the "standard" way, nothing has to be done.

Let's revisit this later, when we can more easily play with the program
and tinker with the behavior.
