However, there are essentially 2 related reasons why people contribute
to any project:

  (1) To improve the project.
  (2) To receive recognition and glory.

and in my experience, (1) is not nearly so sweet without (2).

It's simply not fair when a contributor's work is *officially* filed
under someone else's name (it's not enough to mention a contributor in
a commit message), and for that reason alone, texinfo and every such
project should switch to using some kind of source control system
(whether it be git or not) that has distributed development built into
its fundamental design.

CVS isn't just outdated technically; it's outdated morally.
