Follow-up Comment #1:

In the mediawiki backend the file name is more or less the node name. I do
not exactly know the reason of that design  decision, my guess is that it
eases importing in mediawiki (maybe setting the title?).

Do you have a list of all the invalid caracters in NTFS file names?
