The command `subtitlefont' existed in Texinfo 4.x, but was not documented
in the Texinfo manual, for some reason.  It exists in
texinfo-5.0/doc/texinfo.tex at L3290.

Would it be possible to amend Texinfo 5 to handle this command fully?

For reference, here is the section from cc-mode.texi that contains the
command:
