I don't get it.  Why would we do that, and how?  I do not know how to
read the height and width from the actual images, and if it was possible
why would it the role of makeinfo to do that?

I do not get it either.  What makes sure that the tags are closed and
well formed is that there is code that adds closing tags whenever one is
opened, which is what is in HTML.pm.  You cannot really use a function
for that...  But I must certainly be missing something.  Do you have an
example?
