I know what went wrong, I missed the "detail" that I need to install something
:-( (or, more correctly, more than "make install").
Up to now I successfully installed tens of other unix/linux packages, and all
required nothing more than source packages. tex is different, it basically
comes as a large collection of binary packages that need to be installed
separately.
I only need texlive to pass the openocd & qemu documentation builds, and I need
it installed automatically (by a script) in a custom folder, so MacTex is not
exactly the preferred choice.
I'll reconsider the install options.
Thank you,
Liviu
