If your changes are just for the hide/show button I think that
is a good feature to have although I think it would be better
to have a less obtrusive button. It would be nicer to have a
little arrow that you click on to do it, which is more like similar
interfaces for hiding panels. I've no idea how easy or reliable
it would be to implement such a thing, though.

Please try:
https://per.bothner.com/tmp/DomTerm-txjs (DomTerm styling)
https://per.bothner.com/tmp/DomTerm-txjs-plain (default info styling)

I moved the navigation header to the right to reduce overlap with
the "Show sidebar" button (when sidebar is hidden).
(It needs some more spacing before the "?" help button.)
I also added tooltips on hover.

Also, in "narrow mode" when the sidebar is visible and overlaps
the main text, I made the latter more "grayed out".
When the sidebar is visible in narrow mode, clicking on the
grayed-out partially-obscured page will hide the sidebar.
Please try it with a narrow window or on a smartphone.

Hopefully, these changes make the interface less confusing.
(Most have not yet been checked in.)

As always, feedback welcome.
