One idea is the images do not have to have the same base file name
as the source images.  They could named using increasing numbers.
For example, /b/c.png could be named something like 0004.png, which
would lose the original file name completely, but which would avoid
the issue of duplicate file names.  I don't feel strongly about which
solution might be the best.
