I agree. There is probably some simplification of @titlepage possible,
which would look less similar to Texinfo TeX but is probably better in
the long term.

No problem, but beware that the manual shuld be checked in parallel to
make sure that it is not something specified there. If it is, my
suggestion would be to be either more vague on the Texinfo TeX output,
or clearer that it is only for Texinfo TeX.
