Debian has its update-info-dir script which is similar but we don't
distribute update-info-dir as part of Texinfo or keep a copy in the
source repository.

It seems from the Fedora links that the script is kept in a git
repository.  They don't rely on getting it from a Texinfo distribution.
I think the file can be copied where needed to other distributions.

Are these the two fixes you referred to?
