Hi,

Well, growisofs is not xorriso, but rather a competitor at
which i look with much respect.

The mailing list for growisofs would rather be
  address@hidden

I am subscribed there and normally i would have waited a while
for Andy Polyakov to answer (which he did not since years).
Then i would have answered myself.

> :-[ address@hidden failed with SK=4h/INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE]:

The drive indicated an error when it was told to write to block
0x98bb50 which is about 20 GB after the medium start.
The error itself (SCSI code: 4 44 00) is somewhat obscure.
"Target" in the context of SCSI means the controller and firmware
of your drive. I.e. the thing with which your computer is
communicating via the SCSI protocol. It is unclear to me whether
this shall include the mechanical and optical hardware.

But "INTERNAL" obviously says that it is not a matter of the
BD medium or the burn program, but of the drive alone.

I googled. The best advise seems to be "Clean the lens".

If there is still warranty for the drive:
Demand replacement. It accuses itself of being defective.

-------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to use xorriso for above burn job, do:

  xorriso -as cdrecord -v speed=1 dev=/dev/dvdrw7 /u00/mybr.udf

It cannot be guaranteed that speed will be as low as 1x, though.
The drive decides.
E.g. when performing with a BD-R loaded in /dev/sr1
  xorriso -outdev /dev/sr1 -list_speeds
i get offered 4x and 2x (roughly 18 and 9 MB/s)
  ...
  Write speed : 17982k , 4.0xB
  Write speed : 8991k , 2.0xB

Have a nice day :)

Thomas
