grub-mkrescue is quite a strong ally. It hides nearly all the mysteries
of making an ISO bootable. On Debian i install packages grub-pc,
grub-efi-arm64, and grub-efi-ia32 to get ISOs which boot by BIOS and EFI
from DVD and USB stick.
Pity that some distros packaged the intermediate version which needed
the "--" between grub-mkrescue arguments and additional xorrisofs
arguments. It was never part of a GRUB release.
